Gigantochloa marga - Tiger Stripe Bamboo plants
This Indonesian ornamental was originally imported into the USA as a numbered introduction (G-4761). It was later identified by ethnobiologist Dr. Elizabeth Widjaja of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.
It is a medium-sized ornamental with an interesting striping pattern on the culm sheaths. This year, we have produced propagules for sale at our nursery
Sometimes called Tiger Stripe Bamboo. The culms are green with cream-colored vertical pinstripes. Leaves are fairly narrow for a Gigantochloa. Should grow to 30' tall. Min USDA zone: 9b.
As are all tropical bamboo species, this is a clumping bamboo and does not spread uncontrollably.
The temperate bamboos, grown in northern climates, are mostly runners (we do not specialize in temperate bamboos).
3-gallon bamboos are 2'-3' tall.
Also available: 7, 15, 25, 45, 65 95, 200, 300 gallon sizes as well as field-grown specimens.
