FIVE LARGE 12" PRE-COLOMBIAN STATUES - UNIQUE & BIZARRE!! - During the mid-1970's, a friend of mine discovered a man selling Pre-Colombian type artifacts off a blanket in front of the United Nations. He bought several items and got, from the vendor, an address which he said was his warehouse. Excited, the following day I went up to the upper West Side seeking this "warehouse of antiquities'. Well, what turned out to be a 'Warehouse' was nothing but a 'hole-in-the-wall" shop - the only furnishings were wooden shelves loaded with terracotta statues! The lady in attendance could speak little English but I communicated a deal for the five items I have now listed. Most of the shop's wares were broken and re glued together, many were missing sections, arms, legs etc. (as are my offerings - which are repaired, with some sections, limbs, etc. missing. - see photos for condition). I found this collection unique, showed it to many and all wanted to buy some for their own however, my next trip up there several weeks later found an empty store!
I am not expert on Pre-Colombian artifacts hence chances are they are some type of reproduction (but why were every one broken as if just excavated?) and this is how I am selling them. What do you think! I will sell individual pieces of your choice for $65 each or the lot of four discounted to $275.
