Howdy! Thank you for your interest in the Western Arts School. The goal of W.A.S. is to teach the skills that were used over a hundred years ago and are still today used by the American Cowboy as well as cowboys around the world. These practiced skills were required to spin a rope, throw a knife and tomahawk, or crack a whip.
W.A.S. strides to teach the discipline, practice and focus required to be competent and competitive with these skills. We encourage goal setting, time management, critical thinking and organizational skills. W.A.S. insists on safety first along with common sense and how to make good decisions.
Our trail boss is professional knife/tomahawk thrower and whip artist Doc the Knife! Doc has been an old west cowboy performer for over 20+ years. During this time he performed with a re-enactment group the Wyatt Earp Gunfighters. In 2006 Doc rode with General Custer during the 130th anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Doc started his own wild west show in 2010 until 2014 when he started a knife throwing act. Doc appeared in a promo video for AGT season 11 and was the knife thrower in the infomercial featuring the "Aero Kitchen Knife". Doc holds the world record for "knives thrown around a live target in 30 minutes" at 1448. Doc is the 2019 Florida State Knife Throwing Champion. Doc has hosted 4 knife throwing competitions. Doc has also won numerous knife and whip competitions.
This 3 day event will teach all participates to throw an actual throwing knife that would be used in competition anywhere in the world. You can bring your own knives or tomahawks or use ours. Our knives and tomahawks are used in competitions through out the world. Doc will teach the basics of throwing and will monitor your progress over the 3 days. Doc has selected seasoned throwers to assist you while you are on the throwing line.
Whip cracking fun to learn but not as easy as it looks. We have numerous whips for you to try out and use. That includes whips designed just for the young cowboys and cowgirls. We start with a basic circus crack and as the class learns we will progress to more difficult cracks. Since most people don't have a whip we will have a whip maker on site.
One of the most necessary skills a cowboy needs is rope spinning and throwing. You will start with a flat loop, progress to changing hands while spinning the flat loop and onward from there.
There will be many other activities such as bow and arrow, BB rifle shooting, and a few surprises!
Each day there will be simple but challenging contests like the Che Che wheel, long whip cracking (up to 50'), Pendulum knife target, bell ring and more. There will be prizes for each contest but mostly for bragging rights!
There will be guests showing up like LASH AND STEEL John Baily, the world famous CHE CHE WHITECLOUD, and others that will be posted when confirmation is confirmed.
