SUPER RARE---ESPECIALLY A MATCHED PAIR IN SUPERB CONDITION
THESE WERE A BREAKTHROUGH AT THE TIME A NEW TYPE OF SPEAKER
TRY AND FIND ANOTHER PAIR! Especially one that looks and sounds like this. These are not regular speakers as they have no cones like usual speakers. They use a flat diaphragm, similar to Magneplanar or Martin Logans though not the exact same, these were made in Argentina for Fisher. They came in 5 or 6 different designs and this is Woodland Watch. These are about 30 by 24 inches and just 2.8 inches deep. Made to hang on the wall like pictures, these were invented in the late 60s and produced for just 1 or 2 years. The best way to describe how they work is from the Popular Mechanics article I will include..."Electrical energy (audio signals) is converted into vibrations, transmitted by a striking or hammering action, from the driver, through and across a high density acoustical polymer diaphragm". The main or larger diaphragm has a 2.65 pound barrium ferrite magnet and there is a smaller driver for high frequencies as well. I have tested these and they play great. They will not have the crisp highs you get from a modern titanium or silk dome tweeter but remembering that the technology to design and make these was 1960s, when the most powerful NASA computers had less computing power than the phone in your pocket. They have a different sound like the Magnepans which is more open and spacious. Of course, the outstanding feature is that these hang on the wall like a painting. They have a wire across the back to do that. This seems to be the ONLY pair in this condition anywhere and a chance to own a piece of audio history. NOBODY else you know will have them!
