The Chevy Sonic is a Subcompact Hatchback manufactured since 2002, originally by a South Korean General Motors (GM) subsidiary, GM Daewoo and later by other GM affiliated entities. In North America it is also known as the Chevrolet Aveo which means desire in Latin. Chevrolet markets the Aveo under the Sonic name in North America and it is assembled in America. The Aveo was one of the first vehicles in a new generation of inexpensive small cars as shoppers began changing buying habits to reflect rising gas prices and tough financial times. The Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Fiesta, and Honda Fit are considered top competitors to the Sonic. Sonic will perform well in most driving conditions and was assigned a 5 star NHTSA safety rating. According to RepairPal, the Chevy Sonic reliability rating is 4.0 out of 5.0. The Sonic requires repairs about five times a year, with an annual maintenance and repair cost averaging $536.
