José García Ortega (Arroba de los Montes, 1921 – Paris, 1990) was a painter and sculptor who joined the Communist Party. He was then sentenced to 10 years of prison in 1947; once acquitted, José Ortega attended the National School of Graphic Arts and the free Club of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1953, he received a scholarship from the French government to study art.

He went back to Spain between 1954 and 1960. He then traveled to China and won some prizes. In 1958, he founded the group "Popular Prints". He was considered one of the major Spanish artists of the new generation. His art (painting, printmaking, drawing) received numerous awards. He exhibited in France and abroad (Paris, St. Louis, Toronto, Philadelphia, Turin, Rome, Zurich, Essen, Luxembourg, Brussels).

Dimensions of ONLY the print (no mat): 22 W x 23 3/4 H.

A suite of twenty original soft ground etchings with lithography and intaglio in color by Jose Ortega entitled "Segadores" portfolios numbered 1/120 to 120/120. Containing the twenty original soft ground etching with lithography intaglio in color printed on arches paper. Portfolios contain the same works as above printed on Japan paper. There are also a few suites marked H.C. for the artist. The total edition consists of one hundred and fifty suites plus the artist's suites. Each individual plate was signed by the artist and numbered. They were pulled at the Bank Street Atelier in New York City, at the Ateliers Rigal and Michel Casse, both in Paris. The text was printed by Feguet Et Baudier in Paris. Typography and design by Aline Elmayan. Original hand signed limited edition lithograph embossed.
