AMMUNITION FOR CANNON WITH EXPLOSIVE PROJECTILES (81mm High Explosive (HE) shell with fuzes)
These 81mm High Explosive Mortar shell crates were used into the 1970s but THIS ONE DATES TO THE LAST YEAR OF THE KOREAN WAR. They made them to last since 70 years later, its still solid and you could use it today for the same thing. The ONLY thing that time was not kind to was the rope. The rope on the lid that I assume was to pull it open has separated. The steel latch works and the hinges are no different than 1953.
This crate has ALL of the lot numbers and descriptions of the contents.
AMMUNITION FOR CANNON WITH EXPLOSIVE PROJECTILES
It held (4) 81mm rounds with fuzes (M43A) and the Lot numbers and projectile models are all stenciled on the crate. On the bottom of the crate is the Makers Brand. The company that made the wood crates under contract to the US Military is branded into the wood. This one is AMERICAN BOX CORP from San Francisco.

These are not only great as props, but also for display. Great ammo storage as its made to hold a lot of weight. A man-cave or gun room would look awesome with a few crates dating back to the Korean War, especially with some 1950s era firearms on display.

Listed as EXC condition since after 70 years the box is solid, intact with great hinges and clasp

OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS 18 x 10 x 11 inches
INSIDE DIMENSIONS 15 x 8.5 x 8 inches
