A MOST AWESOME GIFT IDEA-- Not just a cool globe, but the entire surface is made from 30 types of hand cut gemstones with powdered lapis oceans. Latitude and longitude grid lines are embedded thin strips of brass. Covered with many layers of clear lacquer to look awesome forever. 1500 hours of labor in each with most going to mixing, pouring and curing the oceans.
These come in 3 sizes and this is the middle and most popular. The globe itself is 9" diameter and in the stand it is 14" tall. The globe can rotate like all quality globes, on a dual axis. There is a brass compass set into the base of the tripod.
Each country is inlaid with a different stone and each has to be cut, and ground to PERFECT shape to fit together as perfect as they do. They all interlock to form the continents. So EVERY GLOBE is slightly different as each country is hand ground. The gemstones used are lapis lazuli, mother-of-pearl, amethyst, African jade, tiger's eye, jasper, turquoise, purple quartz, onyx, unakite, abalone, green marble and many other richly veined stones. The most time goes into making those oceans and seas. Powdering lapis and mixing it with an epoxy is the beginning but to cure it in the right color and finish it has to be kept at a very specific temperature.
