Teacher
The main responsibilities of the Teacher are the planning and implementation of the daily lesson plans, upkeep of the classroom environment and classroom management.
Job requirements:
BS/BA/AA in Early Childhood or NCDA or related field with 18 hours in early childhood.
45 DCF hours
VPK endorsements if needed
1 or more years experience working in early childhood classroom settings.
FBI/FDLE/Local Background check
CPR/First aid certified
Recent health physical and negative TB test.
Must be able to lift children up to 40 pounds
Able to comfort children of any age and situation
Excellent oral and written communication skills bilingual preferred
Committed to being involved in center activities, community outreach and community activities.
Must have and demonstrate - problem solving, time management, stress management, team building, verbal, and listening skills.
Must have and demonstrate the following personal attributes: respect for cultural awareness and sensitivity, be flexible, demonstrate excellent work ethics, be consistent and fair, be compassionate and understanding, and be able to build self esteem as well as esteem of others while ensuring a safe and secure environment.
Must be able to maintain a high level of mental and physical abilities in order to supervise children at all times.
Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality relating to children, families, staff and center issues while performing duties as well as outside of the center.
Supervision:
Teacher reports directly to the Center Director and/or the Assistant Director in charge of teaching staff.
Teacher supervises children at all times
Curriculum Planning:
Meets with teaching team at least once a week to discuss lesson plans and DAP for classroom activities to promote and meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children.
Responsible for classroom arrangements and maintenance of classrooms to promote good classroom management of children in relation to planning and classroom activities.
Understands and implements full inclusion of children with special needs.
Understands and implements full inclusion of children of other cultures
Responsible for the safety of all children in the classroom and on the playground.
Communication Skills:
Uses positive guidance and discipline with children.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with the center administration, staff, teachers, children and families.
Encourages a positive self-image for all in the center by listening, responding and encouraging independence while using both verbal and non-verbal reinforcement.
Answers phones with proper greeting
Sends emails and other communications to familys and teachers
Community relations:
Establishes positive relationships with parents and other family members.
Attends Parent Advisory Committee meetings at least 3 times per year
Encourages families to be involved in their childs education
Attends meetings, forums, etc
outside the center relating to early childhood education and other community involvement.
Teacher
Budget:
Responsible for the care and use of materials and equipment to keep replacement of items to a minimum.
With the approval of the center director, plans and purchases needed items within a set budget.
Recording Keeping:
Responsible daily checklist for classroom and playgrounds.
Responsible for portfolio and developmental assessments
Responsible for lesson plans, newsletters, dailies, sick forms, and all other classroom forms
Responsible for classroom inventory list with head teacher.
Physical, environmental, sensory and mental demands:
Must be able to lift children and equipment up to 40 pounds.
Must be willing to team lift heavy equipment.
Willing to clean and maintain all areas of the center including but not exclusive to classrooms, bathrooms, playgrounds, equipment, laundry area, lounge, office area and entire center to ensure the beauty as well as the health and safety of all children, staff, teachers and families of the center.
Willing to come in contact with children and staff who are ill and/or contagious.
Must be willing to take proper precautions in order to ensure the health and safety of all children, parents, staff, teachers and themselves.(ex: work with bleach and disinfectants when cleaning)
Support and encourage proper hand washing procedures for teachers, children, staff and parents.
Willing to change soiled diapers no matter the smell.
Willing to clean up vomit and other body fluids no matter the smell.
Willing to work in a noisy and busy environment
Must be able to supervise children at all times and respond to multiple situations that may occur at the same time.
Must be able to handle all accidents, incidents and emergencies at any time in a calm manner.
Must maintain a high level of physical and mental awareness at all times.
Technology skills:
Must be able to use computer software programs that enable the assistant teacher to produce and edit, lesson plans, newsletters, tracking logs, emails, downloading and printing pictures, etc
Must be familiar with the following computer programs: WORD, EXCEL, PHOTO SHOP, PRINT SHOP, POWER POINT,
Meal Times:
Provides the children with nutritious snacks and lunches.
Must sit and eat with children and role model appropriate behaviors.
Ongoing Training
Must attend 15 or more hours of ongoing training per year
Must attend all staff meetings
Other:
Performs other duties as assigned by administration
Hours may be changed to accommodate coverage of staff/child ratio
Must know of policies and procedures (DCF, Quality Counts, NAEYC, ACCYN)
Should be a member of a professional organization (NAEYC, ACEI, SFAYC, etc
)
