I am about to embark on an ambitious software project. This should all be easy to you, but it is ambitious to me as I want to learn to use some new tools. Now I need a Trainer, a Coach, a Mentor who can help me get through this project, and leave me with a full understanding of how it all works. Although I have a general good understanding of computers, am an expert level Excel programmer, and have dabbled in the past with programming in Basic and Pascal (yes, that is many years ago), I have just recently started looking at Visual Studio, and decided that it is the right tool for this project.

The project is a database application that will have a few different client user interfaces as well as some simplified web-based user interfaces. It will be a strong focus on multi-level authentication of inputs. Preferably through fingerprint readers, and possibly even by use of smart cards. It will also be necessary to automatically capture NMEA-0183 data from several RS-232 ports.

The platform for the finished product will be a limited network of computers running Windows XP SP2, possibly incorporating a server running Windows Server 2003 SP2, and the database will be MS-SQL 2005. The .NET framework will be limited to 2.0.

The tools I have are Visual Studio 2005 - Professional Edition, SQL Server 2005 - Developer edition, and MSDN Professional Subscription. I would like to do as much as possible in C#, but am open to doing parts of it in any of the other languages available in Visual Studio. It is important not to get too exotic, I would not like to venture outside of Visual Studio.

I am currently finishing off the functional specification, and would like to start programming in about a week.

I am looking for a person with enough experience to help me out with all aspects of this project, who is patient, and capable of coaching me in how to do it myself. I would like you to come to my place, (West Pines) and sit with me for about 4-5 hours a day, 4-5 days a week. For 4-6 weeks. I have kids to take care of, so my time frame for the coaching sessions are when they are at school 8AM - 2PM, Mon - Fri.

Please respond by email, and let me know why you are the person I need for this project. Also indicate how much you want to get paid. It may take me a couple of days to get back to you, but you will hear from me no later than Sunday.
